Basic Vanilla Sugar Scrub

I recently used up The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Sugar Scrub, which was AMAZING to use, I highly recommend checking it out! It was super fresh and clean scented :) Unfortunately, as I am still currently out of work, and looking to save my money, I wasn’t able to pick up a new sugar scrub from The Body Shop.

So, after browsing Pinterest for ideas, I found the most basic recipe for a sugar scrub I could make at home! This recipe is repeated all over many blogs, so there isn’t a specific blog I can credit this to. It’s probably pre-blog credit worthy, I seem to remember reading a similar recipe in an old Cosmopolitan of my sisters (anyone else read back issues of Cosmos from 1997? Just me? Ok!)

This is a great base recipe too, so you can add different essential oils, citrus fruit juice and other additives to change it up and make a scrub you love! I stuck with the basic recipe at first for two reasons:

1. I didn’t have a lot of ingredients around the house to add, and buying these essences I would use once didn’t seem all that thrifty.

2. I was really craving a plain vanilla scent anyway, for the upcoming fall season.

So, without further Apu*, here is the Basic Vanilla Sugar Scrub Recipe!

What You Need

  • 1/2 cup raw sugar
  • 1/4ish cup Olive Oil
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Essence

That’s it! Crazy right?! I had all three of these ingredients already in my pantry and it adds up to be pretty cheap! I mixed mine up in a jar that I got from The Reject Shop (a discount bargain shop in my area) for $4, because I didn’t have any cute containers in my house.

Hope you enjoyed this super basic sugar scrub recipe! I will be featuring it in an upcoming post, and I will let you know how it goes! Just a tip as well, make sure you keep this in the fridge when you aren’t using it. That’s how you get ants gurl!

Stay Minty!

*Simpsons reference, please tell me someone got it?

  1. I did something very similar recently and made my own coffee scrub with coffee (duh!), raw sugar and sweet almond oil.
The results were great if somewhat messy to use!

  2. I LOVE making my own scrubs - I make my own lip scrub made out of coconut oil, brown sugar and honey. It tastes amazing, and is so moisturising. Better than any store brought scrub :P
